Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amid the chaos of the Great War, two elite assassins learn precisely how dangerous it is to have something—or someone—worth losing. Washington, DC, 1914. Ivy Olwen knows how to survive on the streets without two coins to rub together. Then destiny thrusts her into the nest of a covert agency of assassins sworn to drive back the world’s darkness, and she acquires a new set of lethal skills. Her education—from explosives to etiquette, sharpshooting to sabotage—is as far reaching as the organization’s missions. But it’s the hours she spends among the towering bookshelves in the library and stargazing on the roof with Agent Jack Vale that make her heart fly. Jack knew plenty of hardship before the agency refined his rough edges, transforming him into the man who never misses. But he didn’t know the feeling of home until Ivy entered his world. Now Jack’s heart drums with a singular purpose: he will fight for her, fight alongside her. No matter the cost. When the pair is sent on a seemingly simple mission to take down Russia’s newest and most dangerous arms dealer—a soulless man using the Great War as an opportunity to further his own depraved agenda—they discover that no amount of training could have prepared them for a manhunt that takes them across the frozen tundra, to the Crimean Peninsula, and along the Trans-Siberian Railway . . . only to discover that there is evil in the world they will never understand. The first book of an epic duology from bestselling author J’nell Ciesielski, The Brilliance of Stars incorporates her signature blend of thrilling adventure, glamorous espionage, and sweeping romance. Historical romance set during World War I Book length: approximately 116,000 words The first Jack and Ivy novel; book two, To Free the Stars—coming August 2023 Includes map of Europe 1917 and discussion questions for book clubs

Book excerpt: Star Gate is the largest funded program in the history of psi research receiving about $19.933 million in funding from 1972 to 1995. Researchers from SRI International, and later at Science Applications International Corporation, in association with various U.S. intelligence agencies participated in this program. Using the remote viewing method, research focused on understanding the applicability and nature of psi in general but mostly upon informational psi. Volume 1: Remote Viewing (1972-1984) and Volume 2: Remote Viewing (1985-1995) include all aspects of RV including laboratory trials and several operational results. Volume 3: Psychokinesis focuses on laboratory investigations. Volume 4: Operational Remote Viewing: Government Memorandums and Reports includes an analysis of the applied remote viewing program and a selection of documents that provide a narrative on the behind the scenes activities of Star Gate. In a total of 504 separate missions from 1972 to 1995, remote viewing produced actionable intelligence prompting 89 percent of the customers to return with additional missions. The Star Gate data indicate that informational psi is a valid phenomenon. These data have led to the development of a physics and neuroscience based testable model for the underlying mechanism, which considers informational psi as a normal, albeit atypical, phenomenon. The Star Gate data found insufficient evidence to support the causal psi (psychokinesis) hypothesis.

All recommendations are for skilled attendants working at the primary level of health care, either at the facility or in the community. They apply to all women attending antenatal care, in delivery, postpartum or post abortion care, or who come for emergency care, and to all newborns at birth and during the first week of life (or later) for routine and emergency care. This guide is a guide for clinical decision-making. It facilitates the collection; analysis, classification and use of relevant information by suggesting key questions, essential observations and/or examinations, and recommending appropriate research-based interventions. It promotes the early detection of complications and the initiation of early and appropriate treatment, including time referral, if necessary. Correct use of this guide should help reduce high maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity rates prevalent in many parts of the developing world, thereby making pregnancy and childbirth safer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four bestselling full length novels. Your all access backstage pass to the world's most dysfunctional rock band. Tempest rocking. Tempest rolling. Tempest raging out of control. IRRESISTIBLE REFRAIN Two years ago everything changed for the remaining members of the Seattle rock band Tempest. Two years is a long time. Too long to keep on remembering. Not nearly long enough to forget. In trouble with nowhere else to go songstress Lace Lowell seeks refuge with the band during their stop in New York City. It's a risky move for her because they are both there, two impossibly good looking men whose lives are inseparably entwined with hers. One who bruised her heart and one who smashed it into pieces. Warren “War” Jinkins, the mercurial lead singer of Tempest, has always had a thing for Lace. But then again so does his best friend and band mate. Bryan “Bullet” Jackson, the sinfully handsome tat-sleeved lead guitarist, has a bad boy reputation befitting his nickname. For the past two years Bullet’s had a rule with the groupies: one time, never twice, leave ‘em satisfied, but always leave ‘em. Two guys, one woman, and a host of dark secrets all together within the tight confines of a tour bus as the group travels cross country. Can the past be forgotten and buried? Will friendships prevail? Or will the three of them succumb to seductive impulses too addictive to resist? ENTICING INTERLUDE To the talented vocalist Justin Jones, love is merely a game that he plays by his own rules. But to Bridget Dubois, love and heartache are one and the same. Broken too many times before, the delicate beauty keeps her emotions carefully concealed. Bridget has her own set of rigid rules when it comes to men. She prefers to avoid them altogether, especially dangerously seductive auburn haired emerald eyed players like Justin. But the new lead singer of the rising rock band Tempest doesn't like to be ignored. Justin is used to getting what he wants, and now he’s set his sights on Bridget. Suddenly, it’s no longer a game. What do you do when the one you can’t have turns out to be the one you can’t live without? As the pressure builds, will it temper them or will it shatter them both like fragile crystal? CAPTIVATING BRIDGE Warren “War” Jinkins is that guy. The bad one. Tempest’s ex front man, an arrogant rock god. The only thing larger than his ego is his capacity for self-destruction. His bad attitude has cost him. His woman. His best friend. His band. Everything. Shaina Bentley is that girl. The good one. Hollywood’s pink candy-coated sweetheart. The star of Pinky Swear, television’s top rated teen show. She’s been practically perfect since that horrible day. But she’s starting to crack under the strain of being everything to everyone. He’s a one man island. She’s a fragile captive soul. Is love a current too dangerous to cross or will it be the bridge that brings them together? RELENTLESS RHYTHM The one she really wants is out of reach. The one he really needs is already taken. Dizzy Lowell, rhythm man for the rising rock band Tempest is a wizard on the guitar and a wonder with women. But the hookup specialist hides his emotional scars beneath his suave exterior. He never lets anyone truly touch him. April Reynolds, the confident bartender of the Diamond Mine, knows her way around a cocktail, but Dizzy has her all mixed up. She knows what’s safe. She’s tired of settling, though. It would be so easy to fall under his spell. Except for that ring around her finger. Two searching souls separated by a thin metal band. Some dreams are dangerous. Some secrets shouldn't be shared. Sometimes what we wish for most can never be.

Book excerpt: A landmark in New Zealand literary scholarship, this book provides an extraordinary insight into the formative years of one of New Zealand's most significant poets. Included are 56 letters written by James K. Baxter to his slightly older friend, Noel Ginn, who was at the time imprisoned as a conscientious objector. In these letters, a teenage Baxter pours out his ideas and feelings on life, philosophy, and his own work. Included are the complete texts of the 255 poems written at the time and discussed in the letters. The introduction, an important work of biographical criticism in its own right, puts Baxter's ideas and interests within the context of the wider public events and intellectual and spiritual currents of his time.
